In 2011, Kearney selected for her debut international competition. It was her first international competition, the 25th German Open Meet in Berlin. In her age group competitions, she was awarded seven medals and then followed that up with silvers in the S10 200m freestyles, and 400m freestyles as well as silver in the SM10 200m individual medley, which was part of the open events. The 2011/12 season was the year that saw Kearney named World Class Development Funded athlete through British Disability Swimming, under the direction by Nathan Hilton. In 2013, at the British International Disability Swim Championships held in Sheffield, Kearney twice broke the British record for the 100m S10 backstroke in the heats, and again at the end of the competition. She also achieved personal records for three additional events. The performance she showed on the day earned her a spot on the British Team taking part in the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal. In Montreal, Kearney entered five different events, and was awarded bronze in the women’s 400m Freestyle S10, which was a distant third behind the French’s Elodie Lorandi as well as Canada’s Aurelie Rivard.
