She is also a prominent advocate as well as the founder and leader of Boeung Kak 13 an activist group that has held peaceful protests since 2008 in opposition to the Cambodian government’s lease of property in the region to the Shukaku corporation. This has resulted in the forced eviction of more than 20,000 residents in the area that is Boeung Kak Lake, in Phnom Penh. Her detention and arrest sparked an international campaign for her release.
